Friars Join Bishop Canevin High School's
50th Anniversary Celebration
Bishop Canevin High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Bishop Canevin High School sits in the lush Chartiers Valley area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its campus – a large uniform building – is coeducational; the school itself is renowned for its rigorous educational program. And this year it celebrated 50 years since its inception with the first cohort of students having started classes a year later in 1959.

Conventual Franciscan Friars at Bishop Canevin High School
The Conventual Franciscan Friars’ connection to Bishop Canevin High School is strong. For 19 years, the friars filled various roles at the school, ranging from teaching to administration. When last month Canevin High organized a celebration for its half-century of existence, Friars Adam Keltos, Tom Purcell, Julian Zambanini, Douglas McMillan, and Jim Moore all made their way down to Pittsburgh to participate and reminisce about the time they had spent at the school.

Friar Julian Zambanini offered Principal Kenneth Sinagra
a Papal Blessing and a San Damiano Cross
Several highlights of the celebration included a liturgy by Auxiliary Bishop Paul J. Bradley and Friar Julian’s offering of a Papal Blessing and San Damiano Cross to Kenneth Sinagra, the school’s current principal.
