Faith and Breakfast

The Breakfast Club at St. Mary's College in Jamaica

St. Mary’s College is an integral part of the St. Mary’s Above Rocks Franciscan Mission in the Caribbean nation of Jamaica. The school is open to students from all faiths. Once a month, however, St. Mary’s Catholic students have an opportunity to meet, enjoy some breakfast and talk about their faith. Besides the nutritious food, a steady diet of prayer prepares the students for their day of learning.

Catholic life is all about community and imitating Christ

The sharing of a meal in community is a powerful and lasting image in our Catholic faith. We support and give one another strength and create an aura of unity. No one should feel alone or vulnerable when he or she partakes in a meal with fellow Catholics.

Jamaica

The Breakfast Club at St. Mary’s has Franciscan roots as well. St. Francis and his brothers lived in community. The focal point of their lives was to imitate Christ here on Earth. St. Mary’s Catholic students – as they munch on their food – are trying to do the same. When they finish their schooling at St. Mary's, they will go out into the world encouraged by their faith and ready to help others see the face of Jesus Christ.
