St. Maximilian Kolbe

St. Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941) was a Conventual Franciscan friar from Poland who used modern communication technology to bring the love of Christ to countless people. Today the friars continue to support Maximilian’s approach.

St. Maximilian Kolbe used printing presses in his effort to evangelize to others

At Friar Anthony Kall’s Holy Family Parish in Albany, New York, for example, not long ago a special collection gathered funds for the 2010 Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). The campaign encapsulates St. Maximilian Kolbe’s beliefs in the use of technology for evangelization. The funds collected for the CCC after all pay for amongst other things broadcasting Mass on regional television stations and printing texts that help open people’s eyes to Christ’s presence in the world. Friar Anthony is the pastor of Holy Family Parish.

Using communication technology to bring Jesus Christ to people’s homes around the world is necessary for several reasons. Persons who have only a slight connection or no connection at all to faith-life just might channel surf to a station broadcasting Mass. And instead of continuing to skip from channel to channel they might remain with the Mass broadcast, watching, listening, and thinking. Also, certain individuals out there cannot attend Mass (even though they would like to) for a variety of reasons. Masses on television or on the radio, religious pamphlets and books allow these individuals to keep their faith strong.
