Conventual Franciscan Chaplain at Catholic University of America Retires

Friar Robert Schlageter with his President's Medal

After a dozen years of service as chaplain to Washington, D.C.’s Catholic University of America (CUA), Friar Robert Schlageter, OFM Conv. will retire from the position this summer. During his tenure at CUA, Friar Robert brightened the lives of thousands of students, opening their minds and hearts to God. He helped these young people realize that faith is an important part of their lives. Friar Robert’s efforts resulted in the doubling of student ministers at CUA, the setting up of vocation discernment groups, and the entry of nearly 70 students into religious life. Friar Robert also managed to increase the number of Catholic students at CUA who attend Mass each Sunday.

For all his work as chaplain, Catholic University of America awarded Friar Robert the President’s Medal – its most distinguished honour. Father David M. O'Connell is the current president of CUA, a 123 year old institution that was founded by Catholic bishops from the United States.
