More than 150 Turn Up at California Fundraiser in Support of Friars

Friar Ray Mallett serves the community of Our Guadalupe Parish in Hermosa Beach, California

The people of California appreciate and support the Franciscans’ work in their state. Whether it is feeding the hungry in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood like the community of Friar Paul Gawlowski does, keeping children from joining gangs in cities like Santa Maria and Guadalupe in the manner of Friar Masseo Gonzalez, or celebrating community life on the golden shores of Hermosa Beach with Friar Ray Mallett and his community, the Franciscan friars are always present to serve people.

Countless individuals want to assist the friars in their efforts. More than 150 of them came out on a beautiful evening late last summer for the “Evening Under the Oaks” celebration and fundraiser at the St. Joseph of Cupertino Friary in Arroyo Grande, California. The friary is set in a bucolic setting with trees and undulating hills. The more than 150 guests and a dozen friars from across the state enjoyed an excellent dinner during the evening and had a chance to socialize. Funds raised during the benefit will support the Franciscans and their many ministries.
