Just last week, Rachel Nazareth – the youth minister at Toronto’s Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure – organized a Cultural Coffee House at the parish. Proceeds from the Coffee House – which ran for two evenings – amounted to $1330 and will help the church’s young people on their journey to this year’s World Youth Day in Madrid.

St. Bonaventure Parish’s Cultural Coffee House was a team effort. Young people from the church volunteered their time to put together booths on their cultures. Many also created performance pieces. Several young people of Indian heritage told stories about their cultural experiences. A group of Filipino-Canadians sang and danced. Persons whose families came from various European countries put on a short play.

The audience took in all these performances as well as the booths. Various deserts, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate made the evenings an even sweeter experience.
