Costa Rican Friar Goes on a Mission to Brooklyn

Friar Marco Umaña

Friar Marco Umaña flew from his native Costa Rica to New York City for a week long Lenten Mission at Most Holy Trinity Parish in Brooklyn. The mission lasted from April 2 to 11. Friar Marco’s work during the mission focused on the parish’s Latino community. While in Brooklyn, Friar Marco heard confessions and celebrated the Eucharist. He also visited parishioners who due to illness and other reasons are confined to their homes. After his return to Costa Rica, Friar Marco commented on all of Most Holy Trinity’s parishioners’ commitment to their faith community. He also reflected on the fraternity that he shared with the friars who live at Most Holy Trinity. Friars Santo, Mietek and the other Brooklyn-based Franciscans welcomed Friar Marco to their community like a brother; that is after all exactly what Franciscans are.
