Pope Benedict XVI Appoints Conventual Friar

Bishop of Savannah, Georgia

Friar Gregory Hartmayer - Bishop-Elect of Savannah, Georgia

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Conventual Franciscan Friar Gregory Hartmayer Bishop of Savannah, Georgia. Friar Gregory’s installation and ordination to this ministry is scheduled for October 18 at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Savannah. Friar Gregory was until recently pastor of St. John Vianney Parish in Lithia Springs, Georgia. He will be taking over the duties of Bishop of Savannah from Bishop Kevin Boland who is retiring.

The Conventual Franciscan Friars are honoured and excited that one of their brothers has been chosen to serve the Church as bishop. With humility, faith and a Franciscan sense of service, Friar Gregory will vigorously dedicate himself to his new ministry.
