Franciscan Becomes Certified Nurse's Aid to Better Take Care

of The Sick

Friar Joe Freitag is now a certified nurse’s aide in the State of New York.  Earlier this spring, Friar Joe took a month long course to prepare himself for this position. The course included three weeks of instruction, tests, and a practicum in a nursing home. At the end, Friar Joe wrote and passed the official New York State exam for the position of nurse’s aide.

In recent years, several of Friar Joe Freitag’s Franciscan brothers became infirm with age and disease. Seeing their decline, Friar Joe realized that he wanted training so that he could help men and women who were dealing with similar issues. Now, as a certified nurse’s aide he can work in various settings and make sure that suffering  people are able to live in dignity.
