Friar Joe Kim at his ordination to the Diaconate

At the end of January, Conventual Franciscan Friar Joe Kim was ordained to the transitional Diaconate by Bishop Alexander Salazar. The ceremony took place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hermosa Beach, California. Friends, fellow friars, and family members attended Joe’s ordination. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a light meal in the parish hall.

Friar Joe joined the Our Lady of Guadalupe community in 2008. He immediately felt at home there. The parishioners and friars already at OLG were very kind and welcoming to him. As a community together they deepened their faith and undertook projects to help the vulnerable.

Some time in the near future, Friar Joe will be ordained a priest. He admits being very grateful for his vocation from God. One has the sense that Friar Joe is living a life that he loves very much, a life to which he was called by God.
