Conventual Franciscan Air Force Chaplain Retires After Long Career

Lieutenant Colonel Kenny M. Abbott, OFM Conv.

One key thing about Conventual Franciscans is that they serve others through many different jobs. Friar Kenny M. Abbott, for example, has been a Roman Catholic chaplain in the United States Air Force for many years. On January 2011 he will retire from the Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Friar Kenny entered the Air Force in 1975. Four years later he moved to the United States Air Force Reserve. When he was studying in Rome in 1992, the Air Force promoted Friar Kenny to First Lieutenant. A year later he returned to active service.

Friar Kenny M. Abbott has served in various places around the planet

During his years in the Air Force, Friar Kenny worked in several theatres of war, including Afghanistan and Iraq. During these missions he was attached not only to sections of the Air Force but also to US Army and US Marine Corps combat infantry units.
