Friar Michael Lasky Serves and Advocates for the Poor

Friar Michael Lasky

Friar Michael Lasky has recently intensified his efforts in working to help the vulnerable people of the world. In the second half of last year he became interim regional coordinator of the Americas as well as New York office director of Franciscans International (FI). FI is a non-governmental organization that represents the entire Franciscan family at the United Nations (UN). FI advocates Franciscan values at the UN and works in many parts of the world to improve people’s lives.

Friar Michael has spent a lot of time in various countries serving the poor. As head of Western Connecticut State University’s Campus Ministry, Michael travelled with students to Peru, Jamaica, as well as the streets of New York to help improve the lives of local people. Knowing that service goes hand in hand with advocacy, Michael also started the Step into the World in New York City/Geneva program, which saw students from Western Connecticut State University work at Franciscans International. Persons who serve the poor better understand the lives of their struggling brothers and sisters. Their advocacy work joins the effort in improving these people’s lives permanently.
