Franciscan Friar Michael Martin has spent many years educating young people and working towards the continued wellbeing of Catholic education in the United States. From 2001 to 2010 he worked as President of Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, Maryland – a school he also attended as a student. Prior to taking on the presidency of the school, Friar Michael was its principal.

During his time at Archbishop Curley High School, Friar Michael played a pivotal leadership role in the school’s advancement. He was involved in amongst other things the growth of its enrollment and the development of facilities. Last year, he finished his work at Archbishop Curley High School and moved to Durham, North Carolina where he took over the position of Director of the Duke Catholic Center at Duke University. Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina appointed Friar Michael to the position.

Friar Michael holds degrees in theology, Catholic education, and philosophy. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1989 and has filled many different positions in the field of education since then. These include teaching, coaching, and working in administration. Four years ago, Pope Benedict XVI bestowed on Friar Michael the Pro Eccelsia et Pontifice medal for his many efforts in support of the Church.
