This month Friar Szymon Majcherczyk visited the friars and postulants at St. Bonaventure Friary in Forestville, Maryland. Szymon is a Conventual Franciscan friar-priest and hails from the Order’s Krakow Province in Poland. His current posting is at his province’s mission in Uganda. While in Forestville, Friar Szymon spoke to his brothers about his life as a missionary and on living conditions in Uganda.

The purpose of Friar Szymon’s visit to the United States – which lasts through most of Lent – is to preach at his province’s parishes in Rockford, Illinois and to raise funds for his mission. Uganda is blessed with many resources and a youthful energetic population. The Conventual Franciscans in the country provide this population with pastoral care, education, and other skills that are necessary for life.
