Serving the Community in Albany, New York

The Conventual Franciscan Friars always develop close bonds with the wider community

The Conventual Franciscan Friars in Albany, New York had a  busy September. At the beginning of the month they invited Holy Family Parish’s Young Adult and Senior Youth Groups to their friary for a culinary feast. In total 20 members were able to make the date; the conversations that flowed that evening stimulated the minds of everyone present while the food – prepared by Friar Eric and his brothers – tantalized the taste buds.

In the second half of September, the friars held an open house at Holy Family Parish, which included a music and dance extravaganza in the courtyard, an art exhibition of works by area artists, and tours of the church. Visitors could also get information on outreach programs.

These events epitomize the Conventual Franciscans’ idea of living in community and serving others. The belief here is that each one of us has a God-given talent. It is our imperative to use this talent for the greater good of the world.
