Los Angeles Area Parish Helps Parishioners in Crisis

Los Angeles, California
Friar Ray Mallett – pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hermosa Beach, California – has decided that the money collected during Thanksgiving Day Mass last year is to be allocated to the parish’s Social Ministry.
California is still dealing with many economic problems. These are of course reflected in the everyday struggles of individual Californians, a number of whom attend Mass at our Lady of Guadalupe. The Parish’s Social Ministry exists to help these individuals and their families. Most commonly members of the ministry provide food to these struggling parishioners, taking into account individual dietary needs. Several people who receive help from the parish suffer from diabetes and can only eat certain things.

When crises erupt in parishioners’ lives Our Lady of Guadalupe does its best to help them. It has on occasion paid struggling people’s rent and utility bills too. In today’s economic climate some people unfortunately really do live from paycheck to paycheck. And periodically their money just does not stretch far enough.
