Come Delight in Creation on Mount St. Francis

Mt. St. Francis

Mount St. Francis, Indiana

Is there a better way to spend the onset of summer than to go hiking? What if this hike turns out to be a spiritual experience? On June 19, 2010, Conventual Franciscan Friar Don Halpin and Jody Proctor will take all interested persons on a hike to explore the 400 acre nature preserve on Mount St. Francis in Indiana.

As many of us know, Francis honoured creation through word and deed. His Canticle of Brother Sun and Sister Moon praised amongst others the earth, air, water, and fire. During the hike with Friar Don and Jody, participants will experience the wonder of these elements. They will also take part in a liturgy, which will be celebrated by the lake on the preserve.

Magnificent creation

The beauty and complexity of the natural world inspires awe in most of us. God has appointed us as caretakers of this amazing creation; Francis of Assisi reminded us that that is what we are; and during the hike on June 19 as they see nature in its fullest, the hikers will reassert their caretaker role as well.

We are the caretakers of creation
