Blessed John Paul II’s zucchetto at St. Paul Parish in Pismo Beach
Marilyn Steinbeck is a parishioner at the Franciscan-run St. Paul Parish in Pismo Beach, California. Some time ago she received one of Pope John Paul II’s zucchetti. A zucchetto is the small skullcap worn by some members of the clergy. She donated the now Blessed John Paul II’s zucchetto to St. Paul Parish where Friar Victor Abegg – the parish pastor – had it placed in a specially commissioned reliquary.
Marilyn received the zucchetto because someone from a film crew with which her son-in-law was involved asked the Pontiff’s personal secretary to send it to her. With the zucchetto, Marilyn also received a letter from the personal secretary as well as a copy of the papal seal. These two items along with the zucchetto she donated to St. Paul Parish.
