After beginning his formation process in Toronto, Ontario to become a Conventual Franciscan friar, Jonathan Nix traveled to Costa Rica at the beginning of May where for three months he will live and work with the friars in that country and study Spanish.

Jonathan’s connection to Conventual Franciscan life was visible as soon as he moved into the friary at the Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure in Toronto’s Don Mills area last year. The man did not keep to himself. Following the footsteps of Francis of Assisi, he got involved in the community, taking part in many youth group activities and instilling the parish’s young people with excitement about their faith.

Brimming with energy, Jonathan formed close relationships with friars and parishioners at St. Bonaventure. Right before his departure, the St. Bonaventure Youth Group threw Jonathan a goodbye party. Friars from Toronto and Burlington held a farewell dinner for the candidate too.

Jonathan certainly made his mark on the St. Bonaventure community and will undoubtedly influence many people with his Franciscan spirit in Costa Rica. After his three months in that country, the plan is for Jonathan to continue his pre-novitiate experience in the United States.

All the best, Jonathan, as you open yourself up to God’s call for your life.
