Two Men Reach Milestones in Their Vocation Journeys

Friar Michael Paul
Franciscans have been active in California for more than two centuries. The Conventual friars specifically have a province in California named after St. Joseph of Cupertino. They serve in many communities along the California coast – from Los Angeles to San Francisco. These men are also all on their own vocation journeys. In fact two of our California friars will be taking important steps in these journeys in the coming days and weeks.
Friar Michael Paul will deepen his relationship with his Order when he professes his Solemn Vows a little later this month. His ceremony is set to take place at the Chapel of St. Joseph of Cupertino in California’s Arroyo Grande. During his Solemn Profession, Michael Paul will promise to live the rest of his days as a friar. This means living in “poverty, chastity, and obedience to God”. Friar Christopher Deitz is the Minister Provincial of St. Joseph of Cupertino Province. Friar Chris’ role in Michael Paul’s profession will be to accept his (Michael’s) vows.
Several weeks after Friar Michael Paul’s profession, in January 2011, one of his brothers, Friar Joseph Kim will be ordained a priest by Bishop Alexander Salazar. The Ordination is scheduled to take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hermosa Beach, California. Friar Joseph has spent time in service to the community of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the past. He has grown close to the parish. His Ordination to the Diaconate happened at Our Lady of Guadalupe as well.
