Knitting for the Homeless

Rachel Nazareth is the youth minister at Conventual Franciscan St. Bonaventure Parish in Toronto, Ontario. Wanting to create opportunities for the young people in her parish to serve others, Rachel recently organized a Knitting Scarves for the Homeless evening in the St. Bonaventure Parish Centre.

Experienced knitters from the St. Bonaventure community met members of the parish youth group and taught them the basics of knitting. Pizza kept away any hunger pains and the communal activity of knitting brought people together in conversation.

The knitted scarves will be handed out to homeless persons living in the streets of Toronto during the cold autumn and winter months. And the young knitters already have the satisfaction of knowing that from a spool of yarn they have created something that for years will make comfortable the lives of others.
