A Lecture on the Psalms

St. Peter's Church, Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey

As Catholics we must strengthen our faith through education. To practice the beautiful rituals of our faith that bring us closer to God is very important; it is important however also to understand their history and the meaning behind them.

St. Peter’s Church in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey – a Conventual Franciscan parish – does its best to provide opportunities for its community members to expand their understanding of Christianity.

Education is very important

Since Lent is upon us, St. Peter’s has held a lecture by Henri Petri called an “Introduction to the Psalms”. Henri Petri holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton University. In his lecture he guided listeners not only to get a sense of the Psalms but also to enhance their relationship with Jesus by understanding them. Mr. Petri’s lecture included comments on the Psalms from the Dead Sea Scrolls as well.

After the lecture, participants continued with their lives. But they weren't quite the same as they had been before the lecture. The knowledge that they had picked up freed up their minds to think in a new way – a way that brings them closer to the Lord.
