Franciscan Friar Travels to Georgia on Lenten Mission

Friar Brad Milunski talking to the young people of St. Philip Benizi Parish in Jonesboro, Georgia

Friar Brad Milunski is rector at Assumption Parish in Syracuse, New York. This spring he travelled to the Franciscan-run St. Philip Benizi Parish in Jonesboro, Georgia on a Lenten Mission. He met with the parish as a whole as well as with the young people who belong to St. Philip Benizi’s Life Teen group. To these folks he spoke about prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Prayer he described as God’s action inside of us. Fasting – according to Friar Brad – gives us the opportunity to examine our lives and focus on the things and actions that control us – like the obsessive checking of mobile telephones. Almsgiving Friar Brad equated with mercy. By showing mercy to one another in their relationships people highlight the fact that as human beings we are all equal.
