Faith Development in Marytown, Illinois
Marytown, Libertyville, Illinois
A group of Conventual Franciscan friars can be found in Libertyville, Illinois – a small town just under an hour north of Chicago. The friars’ home in Libertyville is Marytown, a place of peace and prayer. Set in a rural landscape, the property consists of the Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Perpetual Adoration Chapel, the National Center for the Militia of the Immaculate, the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and several other places that help to enrich one's faith and spread it to others.
For pilgrims who are keen on having a deeper experience in Marytown, there is the chance to stay overnight at the Retreat Center. Marytown’s Retreat Center was built in 1997. It is a comfortable and welcoming place set in an idyllically natural setting. Guests can pray, spend time on personal reflection or attend some of Marytown’s stimulating spiritual events. One of these will happen on June 27.
Led by Friar Dominic Lim, the event will focus on the theme of “The Renewal of All Things in Christ according to St. Paul”. Participants will look at the purpose of creation and the meaning of history; through Friar Dominic’s guidance, they will also analyze the impact of the Gospel on their lives.
Faith is not simply a matter of attending mass at church every Sunday. It is a lifelong process of development. It requires prayer, learning, conversation, and action on a day to day basis. Marytown with its Conventual Franciscan and lay staff helps this process along.
