Pope Benedict speaks about Franciscans and Dominicans

The video above covers a recent general audience given by Pope Benedict XVI during which the pontiff spoke at length about the Franciscan and Dominican Orders. The two mendicant orders’ founders – St. Francis of Assisi and St. Dominic – remained loyal to the Church while living in society and serving every person who needed help.

Both the Franciscans and Dominicans are renowned for their life of evangelical poverty, which is something that Pope Benedict XVI also spoke about at the recent general audience. In a world where so much emphasis is placed on ownership, the Franciscans’ and Dominicans’ distance from possessions and focus on one’s relationship with other people and God is a very welcome idea.
