Neuroscience Graduate Volunteers
with FrancisCorps

Jeffrey Musyt
Jeffrey Musyt is 22 years old and holds a degree in neuroscience. The recent University of Scranton graduate is a native of Olyphant, Pennsylvania – a town just north of Scranton. For the next 10 months, Jeffrey will live in Syracuse, New York as a FrancisCorps volunteer. FrancisCorps is the Conventual Franciscans’ volunteer program for young lay people.

The University of Scranton
A sense of commitment to community is nothing new for Jeffrey Musyt. In his student days, Jeffrey tutored and advised fellow students; he belonged to the Scranton Neuroscience Society as well as to Alpha Sigma Nu (the Jesuit Honor Society). He also edited Esprit – the University of Scranton’s literary magazine.

Syracuse, New York
Jeffrey has spent a fair bit of time travelling. He has visited Europe, the Philippines, and New Orleans. The last of these trips was a service mission to help in the clean-up and reparation of New Orleans after 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.
During his year as a FrancisCorps volunteer in Syracuse, Jeffrey will fill the position of assistant to the members of that city’s L’Arche home. L’Arche is an international organization that was founded by Jean Vanier. It works to create loving homes for persons with developmental disabilities. Residents in L’Arche homes live in dignity and have opportunities to grow and reach their full potential.
Before starting his FrancisCorps experience in August 2009, Jeffrey admitted that he had wanted to volunteer for a long time and that FrancisCorps would “provide him with an opportunity to grow both intellectually and spiritually.”
