Conventual Franciscan Parish in North Carolina Celebrates Our Lady of Guadalupe

Blessed Sacrament Parish in Burlington, North Carolina celebrated

the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Blessed Sacrament Parish in Burlington, North Carolina lies near a wooded neighbourhood of residential homes. The parish is staffed by Conventual Franciscan Friars. Friar Robert Benko is its pastor.

Each year on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Blessed Sacrament enters a particularly celebratory mood. And this year was no exception. At 5 in the morning on this year’s Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1,500 parishioners showed up to say the rosary and sing. After the morning service they snacked on sweet breads and drank hot chocolate as well as coffee. The day’s festivities were far from over, however. Once the afternoon rolled around, 2,000 parishioners gathered in the Fairchild Sports Center for a Mass, dancing, and sumptuous food. United in their faith, the parishioners celebrated the mother of our Lord Jesus.

The celebration involved traditional dancing

For Conventual Franciscans faith and community are intertwined. Our faith is personal but we worship as a community; and we also live our faith by serving others. At Blessed Sacrament Parish, all of these beliefs are being put into practice not only during the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe but every other day too.
