Friar Jorge Barillas professes his First Vows

The Conventual Franciscan family recently celebrated Jorge Barillas’ Profession of First Vows at the Chapel of St. Francis College in Moravia, Costa Rica. Around 300 guests attended the ceremony. They included fellow friars, family, friends, and other religious. Friar Victor Mora – the Provincial Delegate for Costa Rica – received Jorge’s vows and stimulated everyone present with his homily. The ceremony also included a celebration of the Eucharist as well as musical accompaniment courtesy of the local Franciscan Youth Group.

By having professed his First Vows, Friar Jorge Barillas has promised to live a life of chastity and obedience with nothing of his own for a time of one to three years. Friar Jorge’s vows also require him to obey the Rule of St. Francis along with the Constitutions of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual.
