Friars Profess Solemn Vows in Costa Rica

On Sunday, November 1, 2009, in the chapel of St. Francis College in San José, Costa Rica, Friar Walter Antonio Loáisiga González, Friar Marco Umaña Juárez, and Friar David Enrique Chacón Martínez professed their solemn vows as friars minor conventual.  They vowed for the whole time of their lives to live in obedience, without anything of their own and in chastity according to the Rule of St. Francis approved by Pope Honorius III in 1223 and the Constitutions of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual.  Minister provincial Friar Justin Biase, OFM Conv. presided at the Eucharist and received the vows of these three friars in the presence of friars from Costa Rica, the United States, and Honduras.  Over 500 people joined the friars in the liturgy for All Saints Day with the Rite of Solemn Profession.  Among those in attendance were the friars and postulants of Costa Rica, friars from the United States, friars and postulants of the Custody of Mary, Mother of the Poor, based in Hondruas, as well as Capuchin Friars from various parts of Central America, Dominican Friars, priests and seminarians of the Escolapia Padres and many women religious of various convents in San José.
