Conventual Franciscan Friar Professes his Simple Vows
Friar Marcos Quesada's profession of simple vows
In our lives there are certain events we remember as benchmarks. Their significance affects us profoundly. For Friar Marcos Quesada, one of these events happened on February 1st, when he professed his simple or first vows into the hands of Friar Marco Tasca, the Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. The ceremony took place in the Conventual Franciscans’ friary chapel in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

In attendance at the celebration were friars from the Latin American and North American Conferences of Conventual Franciscan Friars as well as friends, family members, and local Costa Rican friars.

Friar Marcos Quesada is a native of Cartago, Costa Rica, but completed his novitiate in Argentina. During his first profession in Alajuela he vowed to live his life “according to the Rule of St. Francis”, that is “without anything of his own, in chastity, and obedience” for three years. When the three years have elapsed, Friar Marcos will have to have discerned if he is ready to profess his solemn vows.
Friars from North America, England, Ireland, and Latin America
Now that he is a professed friar, Marcos Quesada will live at the Convento de Asunción in Alajuela and study at the Instituto Teológico para América Central in
San José. His formation to develop an ever closer bond with God will continue throughout his entire life.
