Promoting Franciscan Intellectual Tradition

Friar Wayne Hellmann
Franciscan friar Wayne Hellmann is a scholar and academic who works at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. One of his ministries is the preservation and promotion of the Franciscan intellectual canon. Over the centuries countless Franciscan men and women - including St. Bonaventure and Blessed John Duns Scotus - have contributed to how we understand our faith.
Friar Wayne works to preserve and promote the writings of Franciscan intellectuals through his active membership in a special commission set up by the Friars Minor. The commission has created a website (franciscantradition.org) that outlines its work and provides guidance for persons interested in learning about the Franciscan intellectual tradition. With Friar Wayne onboard, the commission also hopes that the 22 Franciscan colleges and universities in the United States will encourage scholars to research the various Franciscan intellectual works out there. A number of lay academics are actually currently devoting themselves to the study and analysis of Franciscan works. With the effort of the commission for the promotion of Franciscan traditions chances are that there will be many more in the future.
