Indiana Parish is Ready for Challeneges

St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Clarksville, Indiana
Last week, the youth ministry at St. Anthony of Padua Parish – a Conventual Franciscan church in Clarksville, Indiana - organized a Back to College Bash for young adults in the 18-22 age range. Held at the picturesque Mount St. Francis Lake Shelter on Mount St. Francis (also in Indiana), the party allowed participants to relax, spend time with friends, and talk about the upcoming school year. Tasty s’mores satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth.

Returning to school often poses a lot of challenges for students. The community at St. Anthony of Padua wanted to address these challenges so that its young people would return to school full of confidence. This has been the community’s approach to all of its fellow brothers and sisters’ concerns since its inception in 1851.
College can be very challenging for students
One-hundred-fifty-eight years ago, there was a need in Clarksville and the rest of Clark County for a Catholic church. This was how the St. Anthony of Padua community first came together. Although small at the beginning, the community eventually began to prosper. During its long life, St. Anthony of Padua Parish faced many challenges, including a horrific fire in 1970 that destroyed the entire church building. Yet as everyone knows a building does not constitute a church community. With the leadership of Conventual Franciscan Friar Gerald Herman and the rest of the congregation, the St. Anthony of Padua Parish built for itself a new church. Its members dedicated it on May 23, 1972. Today, St. Anthony of Padua’s friars and parishioners alike continue to serve the wider world while trying to imitate Jesus Christ.
