Friar Rufino Maloney: Half a Century of Priesthood

Friar Rufino Maloney at his ordination

One way that most of us mark the passage of time is by celebrating key anniversaries in our lives. For the ordained, the dates of their ordinations are obviously particularly significant. Becoming a priest or a deacon is a life-changing experience.

Friar Rufino Maloney of Rensselaer, New York has been experiencing life as a priest for 50 years. He marked this event on May 24th in a quiet and understated manner. First he and his guests – who included family and fellow friars – attended a Eucharistic celebration at the friary chapel. Then they ate a scrumptious lunch also at the friars’ home, remembering Friar Rufino’s remarkable sense of service to others. Living a life of service is a key part of the Franciscan way that Friar Rufino has made his own.
