Clarksville, Indiana Man Lives a Life of Faith and Service

Coach Gene Sartini with football in hand

Last year, Gene Sartini celebrated 50 years as a parishioner at the Franciscan-run St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Clarksville, Indiana as well as 46 years as a local football coach. He pointed at the St. Anthony Football Parish Banquet how important faith, family, and football are in his life. He also emphasized education over football. By doing what he has been doing for so many decades, Gene has by example shown that a life of faith is one of service to the community.

Moving to Clarksville from Louisville, Kentucky in 1960, Gene shortly thereafter joined St. Anthony of Padua Parish. At the time he was assistant football coach at Louisville’s Flaget High School. After several other coaching positions, in 1971 Gene took the job of Head Football Coach at Providence High School in Clarksville. He has been at Providence High ever since.

As this past year’s football season unfolded, Providence High School celebrated Coach Sartini’s service during its home games. Former players recounted their memories of Coach Sartini and during the final game offered him their school’s letterman jacket.
