Six Friars Further Their Commitment
to the Franciscan Way of Life

Newly professed friars and Ministers Provincial from across North America
This summer six Conventual Franciscan friars professed their first vows at the Franciscan Sisters’ motherhouse in Mishawaka, Indiana – not far from the St. Francis of Assisi Novitiate. Friar Jim Kent who is Minister Provincial of Our Lady of Consolation Province filled the role of principal celebrant and homilist at the special occasion.

After all six friars had professed their vows, everyone moved to the dining room for an exquisite lunch. The Conventual Franciscans and their guests were and are deeply appreciative of the Franciscan Sisters’ kindness and hospitality as they celebrate the vocations of the six newly professed friars.
In a First Profession of Vows, a friar in the Order of Friars Minor Conventual commits himself to live by the Rule of St. Francis, which was approved by Pope Honorius III for one to three years. During this time he is chaste and has nothing of his own.
