Enhancing the Community

David Mulherin

St. Clare Garden Apartments in Syracuse, New York occupy a building that had once housed Assumption School. They are currently part of the Franciscan Collaborative Ministries (FCM), which through the effort of Conventual Franciscan friars, Franciscan sisters, and lay people help the vulnerable in Syracuse’s Northside neighborhood. David Mulherin is one of the lay persons who work for FCM. Already responsible for the many properties that constitute the FCM in his role as facilities manager, he is now also managing St. Clare Garden Apartments.

St. Clare Garden Apartments in Syracuse, New York

Through his great-aunt, Sister Patricia Ann Mulherin who was a Franciscan, David is well immersed in the Franciscan approach to life. As the new manager of St. Clare Garden Apartments he plans to revitalize the complex. This includes restoring the apartments and creating a welcoming and communal atmosphere. A building can look fresh and clean, but only will it thrive as a residence if its inhabitants feel connected to it. David Mulherin understands this concept very well. He has already begun the restoration process by replacing carpets, painting worn out areas, and making sure that every lamp in the building has a working light bulb. St. Clare Gardens residents are thrilled by this development.
