Syracuse's Assumption Parish Celebrates St. Joseph's Table

St. Joseph's Table at Assumption Parish in Syracuse, New York
The feast day of St. Joseph takes place on March 19th. To help with the commemoration of this feast day, Franciscan friar Nick Spano created a St. Joseph’s Table at Assumption Parish in Syracuse, New York where he lives and works. The history behind St. Joseph’s Table goes back to the Middle Ages. Sicily was suffering through a long drought. The people of the island had no crops. They prayed to God and asked St. Joseph to intercede on their behalf so that rain would fall on their island. As a sign of thanks to St. Joseph for his intercession they promised to hold an annual feast. The rains, of course, came and the feast has become a great tradition.
At Assumption Parish in Syracuse, kind donors celebrated St. Joseph’s Table by leaving behind food items of various kinds. Their generosity was immense. The food that they donated will now go to feed the hungry people of Syracuse.
