Helping the Friars in Vietnam

Vietnamese Conventual Franciscan Friars who recently professed their simple vows

In Vietnam – a Communist dictatorship – where vocations to the Order of Friars Minor Conventual have started flourishing, the friars need support to continue their ministries, which include helping men discern their vocations.

Currently 11 friars and 20 or 30 candidates to the Order of Friars Minor Conventual are living in Vietnam. The Faith Formation Community is organizing an outreach project that will involve the friars living on the West Coast of the United States raising funds for their Vietnamese brothers. Friar Victor Abegg’s St. Paul the Apostle Parish (Pismo Beach, California) for example is inviting its member families to support the Vietnamese friars so that they do not have to worry so much about surviving from day to day.

Supporting our clergy, religious brothers and sisters as well as religious vocations in general is very important. These devoted people provide our communities with much needed pastoral care. Through their work we develop our faiths and lead better, more fulfilling lives.

Vietnam has many spectacular natural sites
