In Winston-Salem, A Conventual Franciscan Parish Helps Victims of Domestic Violence

Friar Bill Robinson - pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church - is on the right

Violence should not happen; but the sad reality is that violence happens all too often. The community at the Conventual Franciscan Our Lady of Mercy Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina is all too aware of this fact as can be seen in a note in the parish’s recent bulletin, which points out that domestic violence is on the rise locally.

Franciscans like Our Lady of Mercy pastor Friar Bill Robinson live their lives by confronting the world’s many problems. This approach is certainly being put to use at Our Lady of Mercy Church where the community is being asked to get together and help victims of violence.

Madeline Harold is the contact person at Our Lady of Mercy Church for parishioners who want to be trained in how to assist victims of violence. By joining forces with Catholic Social Services, the parish will educate volunteers about organizations where victims of violence can go and get help. These volunteers will also provide companionship and moral support to people who have been so unjustly wronged.
