The Feast of Our Lady of the Divine

Friar Abelardo Huanca
Over the years a substantial community of Puerto Ricans has risen up at St. Philip Benizi Parish in Jonesboro, Georgia. One important religious feast for the people of Puerto Rico takes place on November 19th. It is the day of Our Lady of the Divine.
St. Philip Benizi’s Puerto Rican community celebrated the day of Our Lady of the Divine with a Mass, songs, and costumes. Franciscan Friar Abelardo Huanca celebrated the Mass. He prayed with the entire community. The choir sang its hymns with a musical accompaniment. And many of the people present wore scarves with colours of the Puerto Rican flag.
St. Philip Benizi is a very multicultural parish. Its various nationalities celebrate feasts from their countries all the while forming one faith community with the rest of their brothers and sisters.
