Walking for a Cause

The team from Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure in Toronto, Ontario
The Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure in Toronto, Ontario takes the idea of community very seriously. Friars, friar-priests and parishioners are all united in making their spiritual home and the wider community a better, more hospitable place. That’s the Franciscan way and it includes everything from raising funds to repair a leaky roof to being there for a parishioner during a difficult time.

Walking to end breast cancer
Recently, the parish along with several thousand other participants from Ontario decided to take on another challenge: Breast cancer. To do this, Pastor Friar Rick Riccioli and a group of parishioners signed up for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk-a-thon, which required the group to raise funds for the fight against the disease and walk 37 miles over the two days. The group successfully accomplished both objectives. And at the end of the two day event, the many Ontarians who did walk the 37 miles raised $11.6 million. When people work together, they really can make amazing things happen.
