Youth Toward Assisi - Brothers and Sisters Together

St. Francis of Assisi called every man, woman, child, along with the rest of creation either brother or sister. He used these terms because they indicated the bonds of kinship with all of creation. They also implied a sense of responsibility to the other party in the relationship.

At the Youth Toward Assisi Pilgrimage this month, that close Franciscan relationship was evident in every pilgrim's face. The pilgrimage attracted young people from around the world to Assisi; young people intent on deepening their faith and living the Gospel.

Every pilgrimage involves walking and prayer as those individuals participating in it intensify their relationship with God. Yet - perhaps surprisingly to some - fun and laughter are also part of a pilgrimage. During games and dancing, the pilgrims who travelled to Assisi this year interacted with one another with such joy that they reflected the face of God to not only themselves but everyone who might have looked their way.
