Five Men Begin Life as Novices

Nick Dragone, Pio Alves, Maximilian Baudek, Jacob Powell and Hilary McGee received their habits of probation (which include an unknotted chord) and became novices in the Order of Friars Minor Conventual after their Investiture Ceremony on July 18, 2008 at the Order's Novitiate in Mishawaka, Indiana. Friar Michael Kolodziej preached during the ceremony.

As novices the four men will live at the Novitiate in Mishawaka for one year where they shall learn about and live the Franciscan lifes of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Their life will also include community service, prayer, reflection and study. The Rule of St. Francis and the Constitutions of the Conventual Franciscan Order are important documents that the men will have to understand so that they can get the truest sense of what it means to be a Franciscan.

Nick, Pio, Maximilian, Jacob, and Hilary have already had a one year introduction to Franciscan life as candidates for membership to the Order. They had had an interest in religious life and after many conversations with their vocation directors as well as visits to friaries, they became candidates. The Conventual Franciscans' candidacy program involves a one year residency at a friary, daily Mass, household responsibilities, and an introduction to what being Franciscan is all about.
