A Celebration on Staten Island

Processing in for Mass
At the Conventual Franciscan friary on Staten Island (New York) a week or so ago, residents and visitors had a very important celebration. Friars from the province had gathered at the friary to celebrate a number of jubilees of friars who have lived as Franciscans for many years.

To find one’s true vocation is to hear a call from God that will guide us for the rest of our lives. Men like Edgar Holden who has been a professed friar since 1939 certainly exemplify the fact that opening up to God will allow us to find our true vocation. Friar Edgar was one of the jubilarians on Staten Island.

Jubilarians
The Staten Island get-together was a fun experience for all the guests. Every one of this year’s jubilarians made it to the get-together except for two friars. A lot of reminiscing took place at the party especially when Friar Joe Angelini preached on the many lessons he has learned over the course of his life in the order.
All the attendees at the get-together also enjoyed the celebration dinner after Friar Joe’s preaching and a tribute show to the jubilarians that Sandy Miller had put together.
Now that the festivities are over and the days are flowing by the way they always do, the jubilarians will continue to live their vocations as they have done for so many years.
