Life at the St. Francis of Assisi Novitiate

The St. Francis of Assisi Novitiate
in Mishawaka, Indiana
In the recent edition of The St. Francis of Assisi Novitiate Troubadour newsletter, John M. Darcy – the Bishop of the Fort Wayne-South-Bend Diocese – wrote about his recent visit to the St. Francis of Assisi Novitiate, which is located in Mishawaka, Indiana. Mass at the novitiate, the bishop wrote, was “celebrated simply and with reverence”. The novitiate property which Bishop John saw after a long absence epitomized for him a spiritual refuge with its prayer garden and sense of meditative seclusion.

During his visit to the St. Francis of Assisi Novitiate, Bishop John not only celebrated Mass but also had a tasty lunch with the friars and novices in residence. All the diners introduced themselves and shared their vocation stories with the rest of the group. On top of that, Friar Rory from Wexford, Ireland treated the bishop to a rendition of Boolavogue. Bishop John sang along.
